| CANON HISTORY: http://mspaintadventures. wikia.com/wiki/Dave_Strider
| PERSONALITY: Dave Strider strives to be seen as one of the cool kids. Someone to look up to, the first person you'd think of to want at a party, someone who just generally doesn't care what you think. His drive to be this way stemmed from his upbringing, and nurtured with his inferiority complex. In a sense he achieves his calm demeanor, able to stay focused once the shit starts hitting the fan, not blinking an eye at any of the other worldly happenings. He knows he has to push through these things, not just so he can make it through this, but for what he treasures most: his friends. He tries so hard to be what he thinks everyone needs, he doesn't realize that he really is cool.
| POWERS & ABILITIES: He is wicked awesome with a sword. Not exactly special in the sense that it's other worldly, he can just wield it with deadly accuracy. | PERSONALITY: Dave Strider strives to be seen as one of the cool kids. Throughout the entirety of the canon we see Dave constantly maintaining a straight face, not taking a moment to freak out or break down. He's able to swallow his fears and press forward with what needs to be down so they can make it through alive. Much like when he was being boiled alive, threatened to be turned into dinner, he still kept in constant contact, with a calm conversation and calmly explained that he had a way of getting out of it. Meteors falling from the sky? No big deal. Just get the game started. He knows that fear and hesitation will only slow you down.
This thought process was instilled into him since he was young by his older brother. Day in and day out Bro raised Dave to be able to handle such stressful, dangerous situations. Out of the first four kids to enter into Sburd, Dave was the best prepared to handle the battles they would have to go through. He would have to keep his guard up constantly as his older brother would randomly attack him, training him, so that he could be prepared for the hardships of the world. This came with a price though.
Bro taught him not to show weakness. Ever. To never let it show when you were hurt, both physically and emotionally. The lesson came off wrong to Dave, as he had assumed that showing any sort of emotion would be a potential weakness, or, not seen as 'cool'. Thus he hid away all of fear, all of his hurt, and all of his doubts. He hides all things well, and only a little bit slips out at a time. Dave is rarely seen spazzing out, but the moments do happen. Calm right until his shit flies off the handle. Freaking out in such moments of exploding out of a creepy pile of puppets, suddenly deciding its a good idea to remove a sword from someones chest via kicking it, and finally suplexing the annoying guy he is bickering with.
If you only listen to Dave you would think him a prideful boy, which is true to some extent, but he is a classic case of being his own harshest critic. He down plays his own skills constantly, comparing himself to others, saying they were better. Before the game he said that he was no where near as cool as his older bother, which his best friend John tried to get him to see that he had his own way of being cool. Dave would have none of that. The majority of his ego is forced. When playing the game he admitted to feeling like he shouldn't have been given such a big role as the Time player. Saying that he wasn't a hero, but his dead brother had been one, and that John was one.
Viewing his friends very highly, Dave holds the people close to him near his heart. His friends are his motivation for almost everything he does. He comes off as an asshole to his friends, taking constant jabs at them, but its all in good fun. High spirited humor that usually his friends return right at him. Dave takes the things his friends tell him straight to heart, and in a sense is gullible to what they have to say. He's easily influenced by his friends. For example Dave always found his Bro's puppets to be really cool and looked up to him and his fascination with them, which was an opinion that didn't change until John mentioned them being creepy. After that remark Dave was more unnerved but the dolls hanging from strings, and even managed to scare himself with them. His other friend Jade looks up to him as the cool kid he wishes to be seen as, and around her his head gets over inflated. Believing that he really is just that cool around her. Then there is Rose, someone who he confides in, whether he wants to or not. She's the friend that can see through every lie that you tell, tease you about it, then give you the most helpful backhanded advice. He values her opinion dearly.
Dave would go the ends of the earth for his friends, all the while not letting them know how much he is stressing over it. While the others were goofing around getting adjusted to the game, Dave was setting up contact with the Troll players, and funneling and creating all of the energy used to build what they needed to move onto the next level. While the other kids only played the game for about a day, Dave played for about three. This was enabled by his time manipulation power, a skill that had to be perfected.
With the power of time came a lot of hardship for Dave. If he were to mess up the time line at all, it would result in that version's Dave to die, as well as the timeline to fail. He (and the other time player) is the person who has died the most. He had to deal with seeing his own dead body everywhere, yet he managed to not freak out, press his nose to the grind stone, and keep working at it till he got it right. He was determined to perfect his skill, so that they could all succeed with the least amount of hurt, and was able to create stable time loops, making sure that what he did effected the world right. If he saw future Dave standing there, he made sure later on to go to the past and self fulfil what happened. The more he perfected it, the less dead Dave's there were.
Dealing with seeing his own dead body wasn't the only weird happening he had to calmly deal with. He didn't bat an eye at the meteors falling from the sky, nor did he waste any time on the quests, or the strangeness of the video game-esc world. He took it all with a grain of salt and made sure to shoulder more than his share of the burden. In fact he almost freaked out when Rose took the very important, very necessary, suicidal mission away from him (by knocking him unconscious). He responded by flying himself out to her in space, joining her in what he thought would end in his permanent death. He couldn't let her go through that alone, but also thought very little of killing himself in the process.
All these extraordinary things happen to him, but he still doesn't see himself a hero for doing any of it. He still thinks of himself as Dave-the-normal guy. For the kid that he still is. Someone obsessed with music and irony, with a passion for comics, rapping, and photography. A secret dork who talks to himself while getting his friends coffee, still trying to look cool. He may not achieve the definition of cool he is shooting for, but if he stopped trying so hard, and stopped worry about what people thought about him, he'd really shine. Dave is a cool kid, he just holds himself back.
